What is a retriever show of the DRC e.V.?
A dog show for retrievers of the German Retriever Club e.V. (DRC) is an event where retrievers are judged according to the respective FCI standard. Such shows are not only a competition, but also an opportunity to promote the quality and health of the dogs and to further develop the breed.
What happens at the show?
At a dog show, each dog is examined by an experienced judge. Attention is paid to how well the dog meets the breed standard. The breed standard describes what a retriever should ideally look like and how it should behave. This includes aspects such as:
- body structure (size, proportions, coat structure)
- movement (how the dog runs and moves)
- behavior (friendliness, self-confidence)
The dogs are divided into different classes, e.g. according to age or previous successes. Each dog is presented individually and evaluated in comparison to other dogs.
Aims of a show
The aim is to determine the most typey and, in terms of daily condition and charisma, the most convincing retrievers.
The results help breeders to select dogs that are healthy, breed-typical and strong in character. At the same time, the show is an opportunity for dog owners to present their dogs, to exchange ideas with other enthusiasts and to learn from experts and from each other.
Who can participate?
Retrievers registered with the DRC or in a recognized studbook (VDH, FCI) can participate. There are different classes, so that dogs of all ages and experience have a chance.
